The purpose of a school council is, through the active participation of parents, to improve pupil achievement and experience, and to enhance the accountability of the education system to parents. The council functions as an advisory body to the principal and the board. The council may discuss and make recommendations on all school matters and engage in activities aimed at contributing to the quality of education and the overall experience of students at Lady Evelyn Alternative School.
Our council is welcoming and positive and communicates without much formality. Everyone who attends council meetings has a voice. We encourage an entrepreneurial approach to new initiatives. Our council is committed to the philosophy of the OCDSB Alternative Elementary Program, as summarized in the Alternative Program Tenets, and advises the Principal on ways to put the alternative philosophy into practice at the School.
School Council membership includes parents (elected by parents), the principal, and an appointed community member.
